A visit to Lal Mahal Palace, an Indian heritage hotel in the heart of charming Rajasthan, is an exciting leap to the elegant era of the Maharajas.

Surrounded by a beautiful desert scenery of rocky hills, Lal Mahal Palace is a peaceful countryside retreat only a 30-minute drive from Rajasthan´s majestic capital Jaipur. A dusty but interesting journey leads through small villages where local children play on the roadside and hardworking camels pull carriages.

Lal Mahal is a former hunting lodge and a private entertainment palace built for Maharaja Madho Singh Ji in the end of the eighteenth century. Its 150-year-old swimming pool reflects a beautiful image of this historical building painted with lime based red colour, characteristic for the region. The same colour can be found almost everywhere in Jaipur, also known as the Pink City.

It feels like a childhood game to explore every corner of the palace: climb the narrow marble stairs to the roof, admire the beautiful atriums from the top and open the traditional style shutters to see the surrounding mountain scenery throug numerous small windows.

All the rooms are unique and have been renovated maintaining the heritage character of the marble-floored building. Rajasthani artwork and elegant fabrics rich in texture and colour give a special touch to the architecture creating a palatial, almost royal atmosphere.

Equally comfortable and elegant are the twenty air-conditioned tents with wooden floors and tiled bathrooms, set on the lawns overlooking the palace. Spending the night in one of them is a unique and exciting experience accompanied by a feeling of luxury and adventure. It is warm and cozy inside, only a tent canvas separating from the beautiful night sky which covers the sleeping Rajasthan like a mysterious, star decorated roof.
